Vietnam era celebration set Wednesday in Johnstown
JOHNSTOWN -- Four local veteran organizations will team up to sponsor the area's annual celebration of Vietnam era veterans, slated for Wednesday, March 29, at 1st Summit Arena at Cambria County War Memorial.
Veteran Community Initiatives Inc., Conemaugh Valley Veterans, Laurel Highlands Chapter 364 of the Vietnam Veterans of America and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2 will hold the event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a brief ceremony starting at 10 a.m.
The event will include a reading of the names of the 105 individuals from Cambria and Somerset counties who were lost during the war. John Brown, president of Conemaugh Valley Veterans, said the day will also include displays of Vietnam era memorabilia and a light lunch.
All veterans and their family members are welcomed. Reservations are not required. For questions, call VCI at 814-255-0355.
Lunch to be offered Saturday for first day of trout season
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Canoe Creek Brethren In Christ Church will have its annual food booth set up in the church parking lot (or inside the church in the case of rain) on the opening day of trout season, Saturday, April 1. The booth will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Lunch includes hot dogs, sauerkraut, sloppy joes, a variety of soups, salads and homemade pies and other desserts. Coffee, hot chocolate, hot tea, soda and water will also be available.
The church is at 348 Beaver Dam Road, Hollidaysburg, just past the Canoe Creek State Park Entrance 3, on the East Side of Canoe Creek.

AAHS Class of 1975 invited to breakfast on Saturday
The Altoona Area High School Class of 1975 will have a breakfast gathering at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at Prime Sirloin Buffet, Duncansville.
Classmates are invited to bring their grandchildren to visit with the Easter Bunny.

Farmer's market applications must be submitted by April 1
EBENSBURG -- The Ebensburg Main Street Partnership is accepting farmer's market vendor applications. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from July 8 to Sept. 23 at Penn Eben Park, 227 W. High St., adjacent to the Ebensburg Municipal Building.
This year, the Partnership is requiring vendors to submit an application to be reviewed and approved for participation. The application is available at www.ebensburgpa.com/farmers-market or by contacting dkoss@ebensburgpa.com.
Interested vendors are required to submit an application by April 1.
"This is a great opportunity for both our local farmers and our residents to buy and sell directly to/from each other," said Danea Koss, community development director. "This market is intended only for those who grow and make their own produce and is not intended for vendors to resell items they have purchased elsewhere."
At this time, crafters cannot be accepted due to space limitations. Items that are regularly sold at the market include fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh flowers and herbs, maple syrup, honey, eggs, baked goods and more.
Cresson Lions plan breakfast, basket raffle on Palm Sunday
The Cresson Area Lions Club will hold its pancake and sausage breakfast and basket raffle from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Palm Sunday, April 2, at the Cresson American Legion on Ashcroft Avenue.
Tickets for all-you-can eat pancakes are $8 per person. Dine-in and take-out meals will be available.
Veterans golf event planned at Somerset Country Club
Somerset County Veterans are planning the annual "Salute to Veterans" golf day to be held Monday, May 22, at the Somerset Country Club. There will be 100 participants per each tee time at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The Somerset Country Club partners with several veterans' organizations and local businesses to show their appreciation by offering a free day of golf to people from the county who served in the military.
The lunch buffet will be open at noon with the program starting at 12:30 p.m. Organizers also anticipate 100 to 150 nongolfers at the free lunch and program, with a guest speaker.
"We encourage our local veterans to attend this event," said committee member, David Koontz. "This has been a wonderful event and we will strive to build on the successful attendance rate."
This year's program will be on the history of the Purple Heart and honoring local recipients.

Easter Egg Hunt welcomes people with disabilities
STATE COLLEGE -- On Sunday, April 2, an Easter Egg Hunt will welcome kids and adults to the Houserville United Methodist Church for a day of all-inclusive fun. Crafts, prizes and refreshments will all be a part of the annual event, which is open to all those living with disabilities and their families, friends and guests. There is no charge to attend the event.
Sponsored by "Skills & Friends" Social Club and Houserville House of Hope, the all-ages Egg Hunt begins at 3 p.m. and continues until 4:30 p.m.
In the case of inclement weather, the Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday April 8.
The Houserville United Methodist Church is at 1320 Houserville Road.
