Lyme Disease musical earns runner-up awards
A musical based on Altoona native Ellen Thompson’s journey with Lyme disease captured two runner up spots in the Broadway World Los Angeles Awards, which are based on audience voting.
“Lyme Disease: The Musical” was runner up for Best New Play or Musical category losing to “Drag the Musical.” Lyme Disease’s Zozo Chen-Wernik was runner up in the Best Supporting Performer in a Musical category where Renee Wylder won “Legally Blonde.” Audiences voted during December and the awards announced Jan. 23.
Thompson and Altoona native Robert Glen Decker were nominated for the awards for their work on the dark, musical comedy. Thompson wrote a book, the lyrics and produced the play while Decker is nominated for Best Direction of a Musical.
