STATE COLLEGE -- The Nittany Valley Writers Network will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, in Schlow Library's Community Room.
Author and editor Thaddeus Rutkowski will speak on "Writing from Experience: Poetry, Prose and Nonfiction." The event is free and open to the public.
Rutkowski grew up in central Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School, Cornell University and the Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of seven books, most recently Tricks of Light, a poetry collection. His novel, Haywire, won the Asian American Writers' Workshop's members' choice award, and his memoir, Guess and Check, won an Electronic Literature award for multicultural fiction.
Rutkowski teaches in the English Department at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, N.Y., and received a fiction writing fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts. He is also a copy editor for Artforum, an international monthly magazine, and spent thirty-plus years as a staff copy editor for business trade magazines. He has been a resident writer at Yaddo, MacDowell and other writer' colonies, and has been a sponsored reader in Berlin, Hong Kong, Singapore and several U.S. cities. He lives with his wife, Randi Hoffman, in Manhattan.
