The 101 year-old Concordia Club, Dick Abram president, organized as a German singing society called Gesangverein Concordia, burned its mortgage. Its first building was destroyed by fire in 1945.

Pa Auditor General Barbara Hafer said that a first-ever performance audit of the state Education Dept. found that it owed millions of dollars in reimbursements to hundreds of school districts, including Altoona, but they may be unable to collect if they wanted too long to claim it.

Altoona-Blair Co. Development Corp. vice-president Patrick Miller announced that the annual Pennsylvania Brownfields Conference was held at the Blair County Convention Center. Brownfields was an effort to establish industry in areas that were possibly polluted because a prior industry had been located there.
