Mr. and Mrs. James Calvert of Altoona celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 24 with a family celebration. They were married November 24, 1973, in Hollidaysburg.
Mrs. Calvert is the former Francene Mills.
The couple have three children: Jeremy (Jessica), Nicholas (Wendy) and Benjamin (Deanna).
They also have five grandchildren: Hunter, Dakota, Liesel, Alivia and Brooks.
James is retired, after having served 25 years at Conrail, followed by several subsequent jobs including for John Weston, General Contractor, and Commercial Envelope. After a career in violin performance and teaching, Francene retired from part time work at the Altoona Mirror obituary desk. Both share an interest in home remodeling and traveling.
The couple credit having survived the past 50 years together "by the grace of God, patient perseverance, daily forgiveness, undying love and Francie's willingness to cater to Jimmy's peculiar taste in foods. In return, Jimmy usually at least feigns interest in most of Francie's endless monologues."
