Club honors Kiwanian of the Year

The Kiwanis Club of Altoona has announced that the 2025 Kiwanian of the Year is Jamie Johnson. Jamie has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Altoona for 13 years and is a past president.

She currently serves on the board of directors for the club.

During her presidency, she approached the board of directors about starting a new project over the holiday season. The idea was to do a hands-on project instead of just donating money.

She contacted Doug Sloey from Blair Hope for Families, and he suggested making up gift bags for the foster kids. The first year, members made up 40 bags for them.

The program has continued to grow and this year the club made up 100 bags on Oct. 29.

Jamie volunteers for club projects, often with the help of her family. She has chaired the club’s Blueberry Sales Fundraiser for the past three years and serves on the Installation & Awards Banquet Committee.

She is a member of Curryville Covenant Brethren Church and a co-founder of the Johnson Family Camp Scholarship, which assists in paying for kids to attend summer camp at Morrison Cove Memorial Park.

She volunteers for several programs involving her daughter. She has worked for Young Oakes and Brown for 14 years. To the business world she is a CPA and math whiz, but to her family, she is better known as a wife, mom, daughter, sister and inspiration to those privileged enough to be in her life.
