Student gets scholarship for animal-related studies
CHAMBERSBURG — The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) has awarded Wilson College a $6,000 grant to support scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year. This fall, three students pursuing careers in animal-related fields will benefit from TERF’s continued generosity.
The TERF scholarship provides financial support to students majoring in equine studies, equine-facilitated therapeutics, veterinary nursing or animal studies. With a mission to promote Thoroughbred health and welfare, TERF funds scholarships, educational initiatives, and equine research, with a priority on making racing safer.
One of the three recipients of this year’s scholarship is Olivia Ewing, class of 2026, a resident of Tyrone majoring in veterinary nursing.
Students donate $669
to Murtha Center
JOHNSTOWN — Pennsylvania Highlands Community College’s Supporting Scholars and Women’s Volleyball team members united for their third annual “Pink Out” fundraiser on Oct. 22 and 23, dedicated to supporting breast cancer awareness.
The event coincided with the final home game of the women’s volleyball team, where students participated in various activities, such as making posters, hosting a two-day bake sale and selling bracelets and ribbons.
Through these efforts, the students raised $669.50, nearly doubling last year’s amount. These funds were then donated to the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center in Windber. Over the three years this event has taken place, students have contributed more than $1,300 to the center.
