Juniata College to host lecture

The Office of the Provost at Juniata College will host its annual Calvert Ellis Lecture to be given by Richard Kiely. His talk, “Lessons learned from the field: Cultivating transformative community and global engagement,” will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Ellis Ballroom at Ellis Hall.

Kiely is the associate vice provost for engagement and land grant affairs and director of academic initiatives in the Einhorn Center for Community Engagement at Cornell University.

The Calvert N. Ellis Memorial Lectureship was established in 1997 in memory of Dr. Calvert N. Ellis, Class of 1923, who was the sixth president of Juniata College. This endowment brings renowned lecturers in philosophy and education to campus each year. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Story league to meet Saturday

The Altoona Story League will meet for its November meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. All are welcome to attend the meeting at St. James Lutheran Church, 1407 Eighth Ave., Altoona, next door to the Altoona Area Junior High School.

Parking is available at the right side of the church; enter using the side door. Come and listen to a story about America as our nation celebrates the semiquincentennial anniversary.

A local storyteller will share tips on ways to keep your story interesting.
