Deadline for applications is Sept. 30
PITTSBURGH -- Penn State University is inviting high school students from across the Pittsburgh region to step into the spotlight at a national gathering focused on artificial intelligence and technology innovation.
The TGIF: Global Impact Forum will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
The High School Student Spotlight is a signature feature of the conference, offering students a chance to present their creative solutions to real-world challenges in front of entrepreneurs, educators and global industry leaders. More than 200 students from across Pennsylvania will participate, with half selected to showcase their projects during the afternoon exhibition.
Unlike traditional competitions, the High School Student Spotlight is a non-competitive showcase designed to celebrate student creativity and foster meaningful connections with mentors and industry leaders.
"This isn't about competition, it's about connection," said Amanda Smith, director of K-12 engagement for Penn State Outreach. "We underestimate what students can do. If we provide them with opportunities to engage with mentors and leaders, they'll go further than we imagine. The spotlight gives them a voice and a platform to show how they're solving problems in their communities."
In the morning, students will dive into high-energy, hands-on workshops led by experts in artificial intelligence and STEM innovation. Activities will explore emerging technologies, real-world career paths and community impact designed to spark curiosity and build confidence.
In the afternoon, select student teams will present projects ranging from sustainability and social innovation to STEM and community impact. Each team will have a dedicated space to share their ideas with professionals, peers and educators.
Several Pittsburgh-area schools are already submitting standout projects for this year's spotlight.
Projects may come from school-based programs, after-school clubs or community organizations. The application deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 30.
