Wedding: Heidi Woleslagle and Paul Murphy

Heidi Woleslagle and Paul Murphy, both formerly of Altoona and now residing in Surprise, Ariz., were united in matrimony at 2 p.m. May 22, 2024, at St Conan’s Kirk, Loch Awe, Scotland.

The bride is the daughter of Carl L. Woleslagle and Deborah A. Woleslagle (Rhodes), both of Altoona, and is employed as store manager for Ross Dress For Less in Surprise.

The bridegroom is the son of Byron P. Murphy Sr. and Carol L. (Ferguson) Murphy, both deceased, and is employed as a civil engineering project manager for Coe and Van Loo Inc. in Phoenix.

The couple honored their Campbell and Ferguson Scottish heritage with a traditional Scottish ceremony, including handfasting, oathing stone and quaich ceremony. The groom honored his heritage with the Ferguson tartan and kilt, and the bridegroom used the Campbell tartan for the handfasting.

Officiant was Alyson Stewart of Fort William, Scotland. Piper was James Douglas of Harmony Bagpiping. Ring bearer was Dusty, a barn owl provided by Ryan Stocks of Barn Owl Ring Bearers.

Ceremony and reception music was provided by the Cleveden String Quartet of Glasgow, Scotland, followed by a post-reception mini orchestra concert.

A reception was held at Barcaldine Castle in Benderloch, Oban, Scotland, a tower castle first constructed in 1609. The castle also housed the couple and their wedding attendees for two days and nights for the wedding.

The couple spent three weeks in Scotland for their pre-wedding trip and honeymoon and visited such places as Glencoe, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Oban, Inverness, Culloden and Isle of Skye and included many castles, palaces and Scottish landscapes.
