Rainy start to Spring

Celebrating Mer-May!

Greetings everyone, I hope you’re all embracing the arrival of spring with open arms and perhaps a tune in your heart. There’s something magical about watching the robins and other birds flit around the neighborhood, isn’t there? Despite some scorching hot days followed by storms, the rain has brought with it a sense of renewal.

Personally, I’d love to be out in the garden, but unfortunately, I’ve been sidelined by a pesky cold. Still, it’s uplifting to see the world around us bursting back to life after what felt like an interminable winter. Was it just me, or did this past winter seem to drag on forever? Maybe it was the early onset of cold weather that prematurely stripped the world of its greenery. Regardless, I’m grateful for the vibrant hues of fresh foliage and the cheery pops of yellow and light green adorning the landscape.

Recently, I stumbled upon a breathtaking display of wisteria near Plank Road, draping gracefully over a bridge in an explosion of light purple. It was a sight to behold, though I regrettably didn’t capture it on camera.

Spring has also brought a fleeting parade of forsythia, tulips, crocuses, and daffodils, each blooming and fading in the blink of an eye. It’s moments like these that remind me of Frida Kahlo’s poignant words: “I paint flowers so that they won’t die.” Indeed, there’s a certain urgency to immortalize the fleeting beauty of nature in art, which is why I’m feeling inspired to pick up my paintbrushes once more.

While I’ve been dabbling in small-scale art projects like ACEOs (Art Cards, Editions, and Originals), I’ve yet to tackle the subject of flowers. However, with May heralding the arrival of Mer-may, I’m tempted to explore underwater realms and perhaps find inspiration in the rain-soaked world outside my window. Stay tuned for updates on my mermaid-themed creations–I have a feeling they’ll be quite fitting for the current weather!
