Gary L. Hammel, 71, of Donnertown, passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Claysburg, son of the late Howard and Johanna (Thorwart) Hammel.
He married Bonnie Lindsey on May 26, 1973.
Gary is survived by his wife; two daughters, Chrissy Dively and husband, Larry, of East Freedom and Erica Holes of East Freedom; two grandchildren, Katie and Caleb; and two sisters, Shirley Way and husband, Hubert, of East Freedom and Barbara Popola and husband, Martin, of Dillsburg.
Gary was a 1968 graduate of Claysburg Kimmel High School.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Gary retired from New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood and walking.
Gary was blessed with lots of love from family, friends and great neighbors.
Friends will be received from 3 until the 6 p.m. funeral service Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, at Leamersville Church of the Brethren. Pastor Stephen Durr will be officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery.
