BEDFORD -- Hollidaysburg clinched its second straight Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference team championship on Thursday with a 5-0 win over previously-unbeaten Bedford.
Crosby Denis, Grace Muriceak and Emma Moritz won in singles play for the Lady Tigers, and Sarah Neatrour and Olivia Panaro, and Katie Klingner and Sarah Urban won in doubles action.
Hollidaysburg, the District 6 Class 3A team champ, plays Tuesday in the first round of the PIAA state playoffs against the WPIAL's Shadyside Academy.
"This was a great win against a very talented Bedford team that we beat last year 4-1 in the LHAC championship,'' Hollidaysburg coach Brian Denis said. "They had their top three players back from last year and have dominated their competition this year, so we knew we would be in for a tough battle. Our girls worked hard all week at three very cold and windy practices outdoors, and it definitely paid off today. It was a total team effort today at all five positions."
SINGLES: 1, Denis, H, def. Shuke, 6-2, 6-1; 2, Muriceak, H, def. Livengood, 6-2, 6-1; 3, Moritz, H, def. Ruhlman, 6-2, 4-6, (10-8).
DOUBLES: 1, Neatrour-Panaro, H, def. Zavorotny-Lohr, 6-3, 6-4; 2, Klingner-Urban, H, def. Clapper-Shaffer, 6-0, 6-0.
