Ebensburg seeks parade participants
EBENSBURG -- Organizers of Ebensburg's annual Christmas parade are seeking participants for this year's event at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in downtown Ebensburg.
The parade is one of the many events offered as part of the "Dickens of a Christmas" event Dec. 2-4. Parade entrants can be vehicles, floats, walking groups, etc. Floats should follow the "Dickens of a Christmas" theme of "Vintage Christmas" or be holiday-themed in nature. Monetary prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners.
"Dickens of a Christmas" is an event based on Charles Dickens and the Victorian-era. This family-oriented Victorian celebration will consist of three craft fairs, sleigh rides, a Santa Pub Crawl, Christmas Tree Toss, Fat Bike Beer Fest, Breakfast with Santa, a Gingerbread House Contest, Holiday Light Displays and much more.

Pro-Life Christmas cards available
Citizens Concerned for Human Life, Blair County Chapter, has Christmas cards for sale.
Two designs are offered, one titled "A Savior is Born," capturing Mary's emotions of love and tenderness as she gently holds her newborn Son, Jesus. The other card is titled "Light of the World," which illustrates the Nativity scene in silhouette, against a nighttime Bethlehem backdrop.
Packages of 11 cards are available for $9. Purchase helps support the pro-life work of CCHL in Blair County.

PARSE elects chapter officers
The Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees, Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon Chapter 1-10, met Sept. 19 at the American Legion Social Hall, Hollidaysburg.
Jen Bergmeier, owner of Groove Fitness Studio, Altoona, gave a Silver Sneakers presentation on exercises done in her class.
The following were elected to chapter office: Sharon Dell, president, Lou Gresik, vice president, James Dell secretary; and Joan Ballash, Victor Ballash, Eva Howell, Rose Launi and Theresa Vaughn, directors.
The next chapter meeting will be the holiday luncheon scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Prime Sirloin Buffet, Duncansville. Information will be sent to all members.

'Souper Fundraiser' set for Nov. 18
Support the St. Vincent DePaul Society's Soup Kitchen through this year's Souper Fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 18, at 2201 Union Ave., Altoona.
The $8 ticket buys one quart of wedding soup and a loaf of Italian bread. There also will be a bake sale.
Soup will be prepared by DelGrosso Foods.

Jaffa craft show is next weekend
The Jaffa Shrine Center will hold its annual craft show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12.
This year's show features more than 132 vendors in the upstairs auditorium and downstairs banquet hall, paint classes available both days, basket raffles and a chance to win door prizes donated by each of the participating vendors.
Admission and parking are free.
NARFE to meet in Duncansville
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet Thursday, Nov. 9, at Hoss's Steak and Sea House, Duncansville. Lunch will be at noon, followed by the meeting at 1 p.m.
An Aetna representative will address any open enrollment questions. Please bring a retired or working federal employee or guest.

Family Search Center closes for winter
The Family Search Center, located at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 778 Brush Mountain Road, Hollidaysburg, will be closed from Nov. 1 through March 1. It will be available by appointment only during this time.
The center can provide resources for the research and study of genealogy and family history. Volunteers can help you set up an account on the free "Family Search" site (familysearch.org) as you start to create your family tree.
By visiting the center however, you can benefit from one-to-one support from a volunteer when you have questions or get stuck, as well as special access to genealogical websites that may not be available from home.

State seeks opinions from disabled
The Pennsylvania Statewide Independent Living Council (PA SILC), in partnership with the network of Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), is providing opportunities to hear directly from the public about their life experiences as Pennsylvanians with disabilities.
A meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at CILSCPA, 3013 Beale Ave., Suite B102, Altoona.
