A woman is dead and a man was taken into custody by Pennsylvania State Police in Chest Township, near Patton, after authorities were called to a shots fired incident around 3 p.m. Thursday, according to Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer.
Names aren't released at this time, Neugebauer said late Thursday night, but more details are expected to be released early Friday afternoon once an autopsy is conducted at ForensicDx in Windber.
Neugebauer said there was not a standoff between the man and police when authorities arrived on scene to take him into custody at the 300 block of Grozanick Road, where the incident occurred.
The coroner's office, the District Attorney's office and Pennsylvania State Police were all on scene late Thursday night.
"At this point in time we're working on getting appropriate warrants, getting into the house and proceeding with the case," Neugebauer said, adding there is no further threat to the public.
"Obviously this was something that happened very quickly and was also diffused on the back end very quickly," he said.
