Twenty-four shot to death in attack

MEXICO CITY — Gunmen burst into an unregistered drug rehabilitation center in central Mexico and opened fire Wednesday, killing 24 people and wounding seven, authorities said.

Police in the north-central state of Guanajuato said the attack occurred in the city of Irapuato. Three of the seven wounded were reported in serious condition.

TV reporter, cameraman shot to death

TEGUCIGALPA — A television reporter and a cameraman were shot to death Wednesday in La Ceiba, a town on Honduras’ northern Caribbean coast that has been wracked by gang violence in the past.

National police spokesman Jair Meza said reporter German Vallecillo Jr. and the cameraman/producer he was working with, Jorge Pozas, were on a street when two gunmen stopped in a vehicle and opened fire.

Health minister resigns after blunders

WELLINGTON — New Zealand’s health minister resigned Thursday following a series of personal blunders during the coronavirus pandemic.

David Clark had earlier described himself as an “idiot” for breaking the nation’s lockdown measures and then last week appeared to blame a beloved health official for border lapses, generating an angry response from the public.
