Man accused of giving false info to buy gun

A Huntingdon County man faces charges for allegedly giving a false statement while trying to buy a gun in Martinsburg.

According to charges filed by state police, William E. Leidy Jr., 42, Shirleysburg, when answer­ing the question: “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance,” an­swered “no” while at­tempting to buy a gun at MGM Firearms 1550 Curryville Road, Martins­burg, on Aug. 29.

Leidy was arrested by state police at Huntingdon on Feb. 26, 2018, pleading guilty to a marijuana possession charge in July 2018, according to police.

Leidy was charged with felony materially false written statement and misdemeanor statement under penalty.

Leidy was released on an unsecured $5,000 bond after his arraignment Wednes­day afternoon. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 23 before Magiste­ri­al District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger.
