Saudi diplomat: Outcry over writer ‘hysterical’
DUBAI — Saudi Arabia’s top diplomat said Saturday that the global outcry and media focus on the killing of a Saudi journalist earlier this month has become “hysterical” as he urged the public to wait for the results of an investigation before ascribing blame to the kingdom.
“This issue has become fairly hysterical,” Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said of the killing of writer Jamal Khashoggi.
Vatican synod endorses larger role for women
VATICAN CITY — A monthlong meeting of Catholic bishops marked by demands for women’s rights wrapped up Saturday with delegates saying a place for women at the church’s decision-making table was a “duty of justice” and that the church as a whole must recognize the urgency of “inescapable change.”
The issue of women was particularly acute given only seven nuns were invited to participate alongside 267 cardinals, bishops and priests. None of the women had the right to vote on the final document.
