Pence plans to visit Asia Pacific
WASHINGTON — Vice President Mike Pence is planning a trip to the Asia Pacific next month following concerns among allies that the Trump administration will curtail U.S. engagement in the region.
A Pence official says the vice president is expected to travel to Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and Australia in mid-April. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss pending travel plans.
Winner claims $435M Powerball jackpot
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — The Indiana winner of a $435.3 million Powerball jackpot has chosen to remain anonymous after coming forward to claim the 10th largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.
Hoosier Lottery director Sarah Taylor said during a Monday news conference that a lump-sum of $189.1 million, after federal and state taxes are withheld, is being paid to a limited liability corporation set up on behalf of the winner.
Girl Scout cookie cash boxes stolen
ANDERSON, South Carolina — Girl Scouts have reported cash boxes stolen this past weekend from their cookie stands outside businesses from South Carolina to California.
In San Diego, police arrested a 28-year-old man accused of snatching about $400 to $500 in cookie sales from a Girl Scout stand outside a grocery store Sunday afternoon. The man dropped his cellphone, and police were able to track him to a motel a few miles away, Officer Billy Hernandez said Monday.
