Chestnut Ridge, Meyersdale net District 5 football championships

DAVIDSVILLE — Chestnut Ridge won the District 5 Class 2A championship by blanking Berlin Brothersvalley, 13-0, on Friday night at Conemaugh Township High School.

Landyn Pincin scored on a 6-yard run in the first quarter, and Cooper Barefoot had a 9-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for Ridge, now 6-6.

Ridge will face Steelton-Highspire in the first round of the PIAA playoffs next weekend. Steel-High won the District 3 2A championship on Friday night, 52-13, over Halifax.

Meyersdale prevails

WINDBER — Meyersdale claimed the District 5 Class 1A championship with a 20-14 victory over Conemaugh Township at Windber Stadium.

Spencer Whitfield’s 13-yard touchdown run with 36.7 seconds remaining won it for Meyersdale.

Caleb Sines ran for 104 yards and caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Lance Jones, who also hit Whitfield on a 14-yard TD.

Greyson Studer scored on a 2-yard run for Township, and he also connected with Brennan Lohr on a 13-yard TD toss.

Meyersdale improved to 11-1, while Township finished 7-5.

Bellefonte advances

LEWISTOWN — Bellefonte knocked off top-seeded Juniata, 17-6, to win the District 6 Class 4A championship at Mifflin County High School.

Bellefonte (6-6) will play Shamokin, a 37-0 winner over Jersey Shore, in the PIAA playoffs next weekend.

Ashten Howell and Alten Howell scored touchdowns for Bellefonte.

McCort-Carroll in final

JOHNSTOWN — A year after losing in the first round of the District 6 Class 2A playoffs, McCort-Carroll is headed to the championship game.

The Crushers, now 12-0, dominated Heritage Conference co-champion Marion Center (10-2), 33-0, at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point on Friday in the semifinals.

Quarterback Angelo Gallucci threw touchdown passes to Brady Page, Nick Dressick and Jon Delia and finished with 180 yards through the air and 91 rushing yards for McCort-Carroll. He also had an interception.

McCort-Carroll will play Richland in a rematch from the Crushers’ 31-12 win on Sept. 11 in the District 6 final.

Page caught three passes for 97 yards and also had an interception for McCort.

Luke Stevens and Josh Spontak also ran for touchdowns for McCort-Carroll.

State College moves on

ERIE — D’Antae Sheffey got the scoring started with a 15-yard touchdown run and later caught a touchdown as he finished with 101 yards on the ground and had four catches for 55 yards to lead State College to a 41-7 victory over McDowell in a PIAA Class 6A subregional game Friday night.

Connor Kulka threw for 216 yards and three touchdown passes for State College, and Shane Markowski kicked two field goals, including one from 43 yards out.

Hank Lustig and Daimear Coad added touchdown catches, and Zach Spicer had a 45-yard touchdown run for the Little Lions.

Nicco Sargent scored McDowell’s lone touchdown on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.

State College will play Wilkes Barre Area, a 42-14 winner over Williamsport on Friday, next week in the PIAA playoffs.

Clearfield topped

BROCKWAY — Punxsutawney’s Maddox Hetrick connected with Beau Thomas on three touchdown passes and then ran for a score in the Chucks’ 28-8 win over Clearfield in the District 9 Class 4A championship game at Brockway High School on Friday.

Hetrick had 137 yards rushing and threw for 110 yards.

Elijah Glunt caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from O’Brian Owens for the Bison’s lone score.

Punxsutawney will play District 10 champion Oil City in the PIAA playoffs next week.
