HOLLIDAYSBURG — Jake McGinnis’s desperation pass to Avery Sloan, on the final play of the game, fell just short in the end zone, and the Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers dropped a heartbreaking 35-33 decision to Fort Hill on senior night Friday at Tiger Stadium.

Fort Hill, of Cumberland, Md., jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and looked like it could be headed for a mercy-rule win, but Hollidaysburg put forth a big second-half effort, outscoring the Sentinels, 26-0, before dropping the thriller as time ran out.

Fort Hill was without 10 players due to COVID-19 problems which occured after last weekend’s game with Southern Garrett.

Play of the game: Final play of the night when Fort Hill defenders broke up a Hollidaysburg pass in the end zone.

Player of the game: Fort Hill QB Bryce Schadt passed for one TD and ran for another.

Unsung heroes: Fort Hill’s defensive team was without seven starters because of COVID-19.

Fort Hill coach Zach Alkire: “The atmosphere is always great here. Credit Hollidaysburg for battling back.”

Hollidaysburg coach Homer DeLattre: “I thought we played really well, especially when we got down.”

Records: Fort Hill (4-0); Hollidaysburg (2-3).

Next week: Golden Tigers are idle until Oct. 8 when they visit McDowell. Fort Hill hosts Oakdale next Saturday afternoon.
