Big-school all-state teams released

No players from the Mirror’s core coverage area made the Class 4A, 5A or 6A Pa. Football Writers All-State Teams that were announced Wednesday.

Sammy Knipe, a defensive back from State College, was the only District 6 player to make any of the three teams.

Hollidaysburg’s Rocco Grassi (5A) and Altoona’s Marcus Day, Ethan Stroup, Trevor Manley and Aaron Carothers (6A) appeared on the ballot as finalists.

Jersey Shore’s Tom Gravish was the 4A Coach of the Year, and Owen Anderson was Player of the Year. In 5A, Pine-Richland took home both awards with Eric Kasperowicz being named the top coach and Cole Spencer the top player.

The 6A honors went to Central York’s Gerry Yonchiuk (coach) and Kyle McCord of Saint Joseph’s Prep (player).
