Crushers defense, run game defeat Red Devils

JOHNSTOWN — Central Cambria suffered its second consecutive loss Friday night as the previously winless Bishop McCort Crimson Crushers dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball with a power running game and stout run defense to come away with a 34-20 victory.

Play of the game: Bishop McCort senior running back Brendon Bair’s 39-yard touchdown run with 9:08 left in the game made the score 27-7 and put the Red Devils in a hole they were unable to recover from.

Player of the game: Bair rushed for a game-high 181 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries.

Unsung hero: Nate Wyrwas had five catches for 113 yards and a touchdown for Central Cambria.

Most vital statistic: Central Cambria was held to just 58 rushing yards on the night. Hobbs Dill, who came into the game averaging over 150 yards per game, was limited to 11 yards on 11 carries.

Central Cambria coach Shane McGregor: “In high school football, the more physical team usually wins. They were the more physical team and they handed it to us tonight.” “We’ve got to learn from this, rebound, and get ready for next week.”

Bishop McCort coach Tom Smith: “This is a great feeling. I’m so proud of the way our kids battled through all the adversity we’ve had this season to get a win against a good football team like Central Cambria. Our offensive line came to play, and we have two big, strong guys who are able to run the ball.”

Notable: Bishop McCort running back Ethan Marcozzi rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Central Cambria quarterback Ian Little threw for 167 yards and three touchdowns.
