HOLLIDAYSBURG — Baldwin quarterback Colton Brain — 297 yards and two touchdowns — proved to be very bright, and the Fighting Highlanders took advantage of four Hollidaysburg turnovers to trounce the Golden Tigers, 27-7, in the 2020 scholastic football season opener Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

Play(s) of the game: Brain hit three consecutive passes for 56 yards — the last to Chris Lucas for a 26-yard TD — to give Baldwin a 13-0 lead in the second quarter.

Player of the game: Brain hit 18 of 25 passes for 297 yards and two TDs. He also ran for a score.

Unsung hero(es): The Baldwin defense held Hollidaysburg to five first downs.

Not-so vital statistic(s): Baldwin was penalized 14 times for 105 yards. The Tigers were flagged ONCE for 10.

Baldwin coach Tim Sweeney quote: “I want to thank Homer DeLattre and Hollidaysburg for inviting us here to play. They are class acts. We certainly appreciate the opportunity to play.”

Hollidaysburg coach Homer DeLattre quote: “It comes down to execution and we didn’t execute — particularly in the first half. That certainly haunted us. I was proud of how we fought in the second half.”

Baldwin QB Brain: “I couldn’t have done it without my offensive line. They made those plays possible.”

Notable: Because of the 250 limit on fans, senior night for the Hollidaysburg football team and cheerleaders was held outside the stadium before the game …Several Tiger fans watched the game through the fence. … A lack of crowd noise was very noticeable.

Records: Baldwin 1-0, Hollidaysburg 0-1.

Next week: The Tigers host Musselman, W.Va. next Friday at 7.
