Ridge pair named all-state by writers
Bellwood DL Pellegrine also earns state honor
Three more players from the Mirror’s core coverage area earned all-state status Saturday after being named to the Class 2A 2019 Pa. Football Writers’ All-State Team.
Chestnut Ridge had two selections in junior quarterback Logan Pfister and senior defensive lineman Duane Knisely.
Pfister threw for 1,995 yards and 12 touchdowns and also ran for a team-high 727 yards and 14 more scores. Knisely, a two-way lineman, had 99 tackles and three sacks.
“I’m really excited for them,” Chestnut Ridge coach Max Shoemaker said. “They are such dedicated, hard-working kids. It’s good to see kids that work as hard as they do get such an honor.”
Joining Knisely as an all-state defensive lineman was Bellwood-Antis senior Evan Pellegrine. Pellegrine helped stuff the middle of the field for the Blue Devils and finished with 74 tackles and two sacks. He also kicked a game-winning field goal against Juniata Valley.
“His season started in January and went all the way to November,” Bellwood-Antis coach Nick Lovrich said. “The work he did during our actual season was all based in the work he did in the offseason. We’re really excited to see him make the team. He worked really hard, and he’s a team-first guy. I know he would say he couldn’t accomplish this without the help of all the guys on his football team.”
Several other District 6 players made the Class 2A All-State team.
Richland quarterback Kellan Stahl, offensive athlete Caleb Burke and linebacker Lucas Sabol made the team as did Penns Valley quarterback Aaron Tobias and tight end Logan Snyder and Ligonier Valley running back Kyrie Miller, offensive lineman Wylie Spiker and defensive lineman Mike Petrof.
Bellefonte running back C.J. Funk was named to the Class 4A team.
Dresyn Green (RB), Nathan Lusk (TE), Addison Darcy (OL), Sammy Knipe (DB) and Isaiah Edwards (defensive athlete) all made the Class 6A team for State College.
