Warriors’ defense leads way in victory

WILLIAMSBURG — It seemed like nothing could go right for Everett to start the season, but it is finding a way to end it on a high note.

The Warrior defense forced four turnovers Friday night as they beat Williamsburg, 14-6, on senior night at Veterans Memorial Field.

Both Everett touchdowns came from turnovers, including a fumble recovery by Luis Saldivar which he took 43 yards for the first score of the game.

Most vital statistic(s): Everett got all of its points following Blue Pirate turnovers.

Everett coach Dave Lightner: “Each week – with having a losing a record and having only one, now two victories — it’s vital to keep these kids in the game and not go around playing the blame game with each other, just build on positives, keep their heads up, keep trying to win each game.”

Williamsburg coach Ryan Hileman: “We’re a young team. We’re only losing two starters next year. Everything we gain is positive momentum for next year. It’s tough, the kids don’t want to think that way, but at the same time, the younger kids are getting a lot of experience, and it’s only going to benefit us in the future.”
