Tobias throws for 435 yards in victory

TYRONE — Penns Valley’s explosive offense had six plays of 30 yards or more as the Rams rolled over Tyrone, 62-14 on senior night.

Quarterback Aaron Tobias threw for 435 yards and ran for 57 more and two scores to spark the Rams’ offense.

Play of the game: Penns Valley executed a successful onsides kick to start the second half while leading 21-7 and drove 44 yards in three plays to take a 28-7 lead.

Player of the game: Penns Valley quarterback Aaron Tobias, who threw for five touchdowns and ran for two more. He completed 17-of-26 passes for 435 yards.

Unsung hero: Penns Valley receiver Logan Snyder caught six passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns.

Most vital stat: Penns Valley amassed 597 yards in total offense.

Most deceiving statistic: Penns Valley had 15 first downs, and Tyrone had 14.

Penns Valley coach Martin Tobias: “The onsides kick was really important. When they scored at the end of the half, that gave them momentum, and they were getting the ball to start the second half. If they score there, we’re in a tough fight. You can never count Tyrone out.”

Tyrone coach John Franco: “There’s no doubt Tobias is outstanding, but we didn’t get any pressure on him and we must have missed 100 tackles. I have never had a team let down like we did in the second half. That is unacceptable. We’re not playing tough Tyrone football and that’s on me.”

Notable: Tyrone lost starting quarterback Brandon Lucas and wide receiver Damon Gripp to injuries. Backup quarterback Keegan Gwinn replaced Lucas and threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns.

Records: Penns Valley (8-1); Tyrone (2-7)

Next week: Tyrone at Huntingdon; Penns Valley is scheduled to receive a forfeit from Philipsburg-Osceola Friday night to end the season. But there is a chance Penns Valley could find a 10th-game opponent.
