Zazvrskey keys Carroll

PHILIPSBURG — Bishop Carroll was coming off of two straight losses to Tyrone and Bald Eagle Area, but the Huskies showed no signs of being down against Philipsburg-Osceola on Friday night.

Led by 223 rushing yards and three touchdowns from Jake Zazvrskey, including an 86-yarder, the Huskies ran over the Mounties, 32-0, on P-O’s homecoming night.

Play of the game: Quarterback Hunter Dumm ran 48 yards for a touchdown on fourth-and-2 late in the second quarter.

Player of the game: Jake Zazvrskey ran for 223 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns.

Unsung hero(es): The Bishop Carroll offensive and defensive lines.

Most vital statistic(s): The Huskies amassed 365 rushing yards

Interim Bishop Carroll coach Phillip Woo: “The kids played really well. They’ve had a lot of distractions and they’ve worked through it. They came out and they played football. I expected Philipsburg to give us a really good game because they played well last week against Tyrone. For us, this is a big game for our season.”

P-O coach Brian McGonigal: “That was just awful football. We came out flat. We lost three key starters to injuries, and that really took away our momentum. That doesn’t represent who we are. We’re a much better team than what we showed tonight.”

BC running back Jake Zazvrskey: “I’ve got to give all the credit to the line. I had big holes, and I just hit them. I expected them to give us a better game. I think we just came out harder. I think they expected to roll over us, and it just didn’t happen.” Notable: P-O quarterback Ryan Whitehead, who threw for 200 yards against Tyrone last week, suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter. His brother, Jeremy, a wide receiver, replaced him. … Amanda Romano was voted homecoming queen, while Hunter Martin was the king. … Bishop Carroll outgained P-O, 440-93. … Friday’s game was broadcast on the internet.

Next week: Bishop Carroll visits Huntingdon next Friday. Philipsburg-Osceola hosts Central

Records: Bishop Carroll (3-2); Philipsburg-Osceola (1-4)
