Tussey defenders rough up Pirates

WILLIAMSBURG — Tussey Mountain shut down Williamsburg while running for seven touchdowns of its own, three by Tyler Rhodes, in a 48-14 romp at Wiliamsburg Friday.

The Titans rushed for 214 yards in the first half while allowing minus-six yards to Williamsburg. In the second quarter, the Titans scored 27 points, including one possession where they only needed one play to score en route to a 41-0 halftime lead.

Play of the game: Rhodes took the pitch on a sweep to the left and took off on a 54-yard touchdown run to make it 22-0 in the second quarter.

Player of the game: Kaden Lucko carried 13 times for 151 yards and one touchdown for the Titans.

Unsung heroes: Tussey’s defensive line: Chad Morningstar, Damon Clark, Logan Zdrosky, Nick Brumbaugh and Aaron Day.

Most vital statistics: Tussey controlled the line of scrimmage and piled up 238 yards rushing. The Titan defense allowed only 44 yards on the ground and 83 total on offense.

Tussey Mountain coach Anthony Sottasante: “It was about just getting the win tonight. We played well in the first half. We have to get our special teams straightened out and our young kids need to play when they get a chance to get in there.”

Williamsburg coach Ryan Hileman: “The kids played their hearts out. We knew it was a tough opponent and they did their best. When injuries start stacking up, it affects what you’re trying to do. Even being a small school it’s next man up. That’s our mentality and you just have to keep playing.”

Rhodes: “Every week we practice hard. It’s important we got this win tonight. It was a great game but there’s still a lot to work on. We’re playing really well lately but we didn’t execute the best we could have tonight. We had a lot of mental mistakes we need to work on.”

Notable: Jarred Sipes scored two rushing TDs for the Titans, giving him eight on the season.

Records: Tussey Mountain (5-0), Williamsburg (0-5)
