Pfister, Ridge show balance offensively in win

FISHERTOWN — Logan Pfister ran for 129 yards and three touchdowns and threw for 193 yards with a score as Chestnut Ridge remained undefeated, topping Cambria Heights, 39-14, at Dr. Larry Giovacchini Stadium Friday.

Heights was on Chestnut Ridge’s side of the field all evening but could only put two touchdowns on the board.

Play of the game: Cambria Heights had just scored with 54 seconds left before halftime to make the score 22-6 and were set to kick off. Heights squibbed the kick and sophomore Jonah Hillegas fielded the ball from his front line position and sprinted past the surprised Heights kickoff team 52 yards and scored with 46 seconds left before halftime to make the score 29-6 at the half.

Heights received the second half kick off and scored.

Player of the game: Logan Pfister had 374 yards of total offense on the night and took the opening kick off 52 yards to set up his first score of the evening.

Unsung hero: Duane Knisely batted down two passes and had two tackles for loss from his defensive end position, helping to stall three Cambria Heights drives in Ridge territory.

Most vital statistics: Heights only punted the ball twice and was on the Ridge side of the field all night but could only generate two scores. Only two other players carried the ball for Ridge, and they had negative yardage. Heights had 20 first downs compared to Ridge’s eight.

Chestnut Ridge coach Max Shoemaker: “Our kids were resilient tonight, and we knew we were going to be in a tough battle with a very physical Heights football team. We were patient on defense and did not allow any big plays. Logan made some huge plays with his legs and arm this evening.”

Cambria Heights coach Jarrod Lewis: “We just couldn’t finish some drives this evening. We moved the ball all game but again we just couldn’t finish and put some more points on the board. Ridge is very well coached and Pfister is a special player.”

Notable: Heights’ Tyler Trybus had 33 carries for 153 yards.

Records: Chestnut Ridge (5-0); Cambria Heights (2-3)

Next week: Chestnut Ridge travels to Central Cambria. Cambria Heights hosts Forest Hills.
