Defensive effort propels Devils over Warriors

EVERETT — Bellwood-Antis held Everett to 28 yards of total offense and remained unbeaten with a 40-0 win over the host team.

Bellwood took advantage of good field position and three Everett fumbles, defensive linemen Evan Pellegrine made numerous tackles along the line of scrimmage and had a couple tackles for losses as Bellwood took a 27-0 halftime lead.

Bellwood scored two more times in the second half to set the final score.

Play of the game: Bellwood-Antis’ Nick Plank scored the first touchdown on the night from 17 yards out, breaking numerous tackles and bouncing the play outside.

Player of the game: Bellwood-Antis tailback Zach Mallon had 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 10 carries.

Unsung heroes: The Bellwood defense, led by defensive lineman Pellegrine, held Everett to 28 total yards.

Most vital statistic: Bellwood held Everett to minus-3 yards rushing on the night and 31 yards passing.

Bellwood-Antis coach Nick Lovrich: “Our goal was to come out and get better than we were last week. We had a good week of practice and I think our guys executed very well tonight.”

Pellegrine: “I am just really proud of our defense tonight. We all played our hearts out, and we all played together.”
