LORETTO — Konner Kiesewetter threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Bishop Guilfoyle routed Cambria Heights, 36-12, in a Laurel Highlands Athletics Conference football game on Friday night at Saint Francis University’s DeGol Field.

Kiesewetter threw for 160 yards and ran for 63 to help lead a balanced offense. The Marauders totaled 358 yards, including 120 by Keegan Myrick.

“Konner, our quarterback, has a huge upside,” Bishop Guilfoyle coach Justin Wheeler said. “And we definitely like the way he throws the ball, and it’s good to be balanced. And we told them all week the game plan was to get him throwing early. And he did a great job.”

Bishop Guilfoyle parlayed four touchdowns and a safety to assume a 30-0 halftime lead. Cambria Heights managed a pair of second-half touchdowns, thanks to a couple of large gains by Chris Flis, who led the Highlanders with 80 yards.

Play of the game: Kiesewetter found Homan along near the right pylon for a 25-yard touchdown pass that put the Marauders ahead to stay.

Players of the game: Kiesewetter threw touchdown passes of 25 and 37 yards. He also ran for a 1-yard score. Myrick scored from 55 and 3 yards.

Unsung hero: Homan caught four passes for 56 yards and the game’s opening touchdown.

Most vital statistics: Myrick, a junior, raised his conference-leading rushing total to 374 yards to support a balanced offense.

Wheeler: “We want to finish games. We just told the guys we want to make sure we finish strong. I thought we had a great first half, and then we came out in the second half and played some average football at times. We told the guys, ‘If you want to win some of the games you want to win, you have to learn to come out and play the second half like you do the first.”

Cambria Heights coach Jarrod Lewis on where he believes his team needs to improve: “Everywhere. Everywhere. Everywhere. There was no aspect of the game today that was good. So we need to improve. And we will. I liked how we came back in the second half and battled. We just need to put together a full game.”

Kiesewetter on his 223 total yards: “Without my line, I don’t think that happens.Offensively, they got the push, they did everything. I made a couple of passes, but without the protection it doesn’t happen.”

Cambria Heights running back Tyler Trybus, when asked where the Highlanders need to improve: “Everything. We need to improve on everything. We’ll go back to work on Monday.”

Notable: Kiesewetter and Myrick, as if they hadn’t done enough, also intercepted one pass apiece. …. Andrew Yanoshak sacked Ryan Bearer for a second-quarter safety. … Kiesewetter completed 11 of 17 passes and was not intercepted. … Cambria Heights managed only 9 passing yards. … Tyler Trybus (1 yard) and Jared Fox (7 yards) scored the Cambria Heights touchdowns. … Cambria Heights deferred to open the game and recovered an onside kick. The possession stalled, however, and Kiesewetter’s scoring pass to Homan put Bishop Guilfoyle in the lead just over 4 minute.

Records: Bishop Guilfoyle (2-1), Cambria Heights (1-2).

Next week: Bishop Guilfoyle plays host to Central Cambria on Friday, and Cambria Heights travels to Bishop McCort on Friday.
