AAHS appears set to vote on hiring coach

Altoona Area High School could have its next head football coach by the end of tonight — and it might be a familiar name.

The Altoona School Board is meeting at 7 p.m. with the hiring of a varsity head football coaching position expected to be on the agenda. The board will have the final say, but the athletic council’s recommended candidate is expected to be Vince Nedimyer Jr., according to multiple sources.

Nedimyer, 38, quarterbacked the 1997 Altoona team under Ed Dalton to a 12-1 record, Altoona’s best record in the last 50 years. He went on to play quarterback at the University of Rhode Island and coached at the junior high level at Altoona.

He is the son of former Altoona head football coach and athletic director Vince Nedimyer Sr.

The next coach will be the successor to Nick Felus, whose position was opened after his three-year stint, and will be the fourth Altoona head coach in the last 10 years.
