This week’s high school basketball games to watch

High school boys

MONDAY

Altoona at Hollidaysburg, 7:30

Notable: Hollidaysburg won the first meeting at the AAHS Fieldhouse by nine in December.

Bishop Carroll at Penn Cambria, 7:30

Notable: Matchup between two teams getting hot at the right time of the season.

Forest Hills at Central Cambria, 7:15

Notable: Devils, currently the No. 6 seed in 3A, get a shot at the current top seed Rangers at home.

Williamsport at Tyrone, 7:30

Notable: Millionaires not having a great season, but they are coming off a lopsided win over Altoona.

TUESDAY

Juniata Valley at Williamsburg, 7:15

Notable: Blue Pirates are currently the No. 2 seed in Class 1A and need a win here to maintain that in a tight field.

HERITAGE CONFERENCE

Semifinals

Homer-Center at Portage, 7

Notable: Mustangs beat Wildcats by 21 in the regular season and will try to do it again with a shot at Heritage final on the line.

WEDNESDAY

Westmont Hilltop at Penn Cambria, 7:30

Notable: Panthers are hovering around play-in status in Class 3A and could use a win over current fourth-seed Westmont.

THURSDAY

Moshannon Valley at Claysburg-Kimmel, 7:15

Notable: Key game for Bulldogs, who are fighting for playoff positioning and a possible spot in ICC semifinals.

FRIDAY

Bishop Guilfoyle at Clearfield, 7:15

Notable: Bison just took Central down to the wire last week, and teams sometimes don’t react well to long road trips.

Central at Williamsburg, 7:15

Notable: Non-conference game between schools just 14 miles away from each other that will serve as a playoff tune-up.

Claysburg-Kimmel at Northern Bedford, 7:15

Notable: Bulldogs got a 44-41 win in the last meeting just three days before their current eight-game win streak started.

Heritage Conference championship at IUP, 8

Notable: This game could feature Portage taking on either West Shamokin or Conemaugh Township, teams the Mustangs have a win over.

SATURDAY

Penn Cambria at Tyrone, 2:30

Notable: Big week for Penn Cambria wraps up on the road at Golden Eagles, who enter the week as No. 3 seed.

High school GIRLS

MONDAY

Altoona at Hollidaysburg, 6

Notable: Altoona won the first matchup at the AAHS Fieldhouse on Dec. 9, 54-38 — the Lady Tigers’ only loss.

Huntingdon at Bellwood-Antis, 7:30

Notable: Critical game for Lady Blue Devils, who are trying to hold on to the No. 4 seed in 2A and a home playoff game.

Williamsburg at Juniata Valley, 6

Notable: Lady Hornets were down just one at halftime in the first matchup and are on a six-game winning streak.

HERITAGE CONFERENCE

Semifinals

Portage at River Valley, 7

Notable: River Valley is 22-0 and won the regular season matchup 71-35. Tall task for Lady Mustangs.

Penns Manor at Cambria Heights, 7

Notable: Lady Comets opened the season with a 62-36 win over Lady Highlanders — who are much-improved since December.

WEDNESDAY

Juniata Valley at Saint Joseph’s, 6

Notable: If the District 6 Class 1A playoff started today, this would be the matchup — though it would be at a neutral site as SJ can’t host due to gym size.

Williamsburg at Southern Huntingdon, 7:15

Notable: First matchup was won in overtime by Williamsburg, and Lady Rockets coach Craig Sellers stepped down the next day.

THURSDAY

Bishop McCort at Bishop Carroll, 7:15

Notable: Tall task for the Lady Huskies, who are trying to stay ahead of Blacklick Valley and Williamsburg in 1A rankings.

Clearfield at Bishop Guilfoyle, 7:15

Notable: Lady Bison have given BG some good games over the past couple of seasons.

Johnstown at Central Cambria, 7:15

Notable: Both of these teams are capable of playing very well but also are capable of inconsistency.

FRIDAY

Penn Cambria at Bishop Carroll, 7:15

Notable: Likely a coin-flip game for teams fighting for playoff positioning. Lady Panthers need a hot finish to get into the 4A semis without a play-in.

Tussey Mountain at Juniata Valley, 6

Notable: Lady Hornets already have wins over Tussey rivals NBC and Everett but will need to handle Titans’ press to win.

SATURDAY

Penn Cambria at Tyrone, 1

Notable: Tyrone won 56-50 in a holiday tournament. If the 4A playoffs started today, these two would meet in a play-in game to face top seed Juniata.
