Lady Lions hang on for win

HARRISBURG — Altoona held off a fourth-quarter rally from Central Dauphin to pick up a 59-58 victory in high school girls basketball action on Tuesday.

Brionna Hudson led the Lady Lions with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Zaelihn Nguyen-Moore posted 10 points and eight boards, while Lanie Wilt fronted with a team-high 17 points.

RIDGWAY — Katie Bettwy won the floor exercise en route to the all-around title for Altoona in a 134.9-101.325 win over Ridgway in gymnastics.

Taylor Knepper finished first on the bars and beam, and Lamar Heaster captured the vault for the 3-0 Lady Lions.

Altoona jumped all over Conemaugh Valley with four goals in the first and second periods in a 9-1 win at Galactic Ice in hockey.

Carter Panick and Ricky Crum netted a goal and two assists each for the Mountain Lions, while Noah Staines notched a goal and an assist, and Kyle Conrad totaled two assists.

Tigers fall short

EBENSBURG — Hollidaysburg tried to keep up with Somerset in a scoring battle, but the Eagles got two goals in the third period to pull ahead for good in a 5-4 Golden Tigers’ loss at NCRC Ice Skating Rink.

Brody Duey, Isaac Miller and Jayden Mentzer notched a goal and an assist apiece, while Porter Weise scored a goal for the Tigers.

North Star’s Cody Snoeberger was the top shooter with a score of 277-5, while BC’s Alena Nagle had a personal best of 251-2.

Berkheimer honored

ANNVILLE — Lebanon Valley College’s Darrian Berkheimer of Altoona was named to the Third Team of the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region Team.

Berkheimer, who was named to the USC All-Region Team a few weeks ago, has a 3.90 grade-point average. She was also selected as a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree this season. The midfielder becomes LVC’s first Scholar All-Region honoree in program history since the USC began the award.
