After a rough stretch over the holidays, the Bishop Guilfoyle Academy boys basketball team lit it up from beyond the arc on Friday night, en route to a 78-39 victory over the Bishop Carroll Huskies at the Pleasant Valley Gymnasium.
The win moves the Marauders to 6-0 in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference.
Bishop Guilfoyle came out firing in the first quarter with a combined six 3-pointers.
“We feel when we shoot the ball well, were very dangerous,” Bishop Guilfoyle coach Ryan Lestochi said. “We’re athletic; we can get to the basket.”
Junior guard Taurean Consiglio led all Guilfoyle scorers with 14 points on the night.
“I think a lot of it was from defense to offense and just running the floor.” Consiglio said. “Just running the floor, being in shape and getting up and down the court.”
After losing three straight games, the Marauders were pleased to come out on top with a big win.
“I was very happy with our play,” Lestochi said. “We had a few tough games in a row, so I was looking to see us bounce back and get back some of the intensity and teamwork we’ve had a practice lately and I thought we did that tonight.”
BG junior Jake Kissell scored 12 points, including 2-of-3 from the foul line in the victory.
“Once I saw one fall, it came kind of easy,” Kissell said. “I started the game on the outside, but once I started realizing I can take it to the middle, I just kept attacking the hoop and getting layups.”
After bouncing back with a 20-point second quarter, the Marauders’ perimeter power, and intensity on defense, became too much for Bishop Carroll.
The Huskies view this loss as a learning experience.
“There are times when you lose by 30 and you learn a lot more than when you win by 40,” Bishop Carroll coach Cosie Aliquo said. “You think you’re good, and the next thing you know, you meet a team like this.”
The Marauders travel to Bellefonte on Monday to take on the Red Raiders. Bishop Carroll heads to Forest Hills on Wednesday.
