D6 playoff deadline for points Feb. 16

District 6 announced Thursday afternoon that Wednesday, Feb. 16 will be the final day to accumulate points toward seedings for the basketball playoffs.

The seedings will be finalized the next morning.

In the boys playoff field, the Class 1A bracket will have six teams, there will be eight teams in the 2A bracket, 10 teams in Class 3A, six in 4A, four in 5A (which also includes District 4 teams Shikellamy and Selinsgrove) and the three teams in District 6 Class 6A, which will then participate in a subregional with District 8 and District 10 6A teams.

On the girls side, there will be an eight-team bracket in 1A, 10 teams in 2A, nine teams in 3A, four in 4A (which also includes District 5’s Bedford and Somerset), four in 5A (which also includes District 9 DuBois and District 8 teams Brashear and Obama Academy) and the three teams in District 6 6A which will then play in the same subregional as the boys.

The higher seed will host games until the semifinals, but whether or not the semifinals will be at neutral sites won’t be decided until early February.

Bean leads Central boys to victory

MARTINSBURG — Seth Bean scored 20 points, and the Central High School boys basketball team cruised past Central Cambria on Thursday night, 66-36, in high school action.

Eli Lingenfelter scored 18 points, and Hunter Smith scored 14 for the Scarlet Dragons, who improved to 10-4.

Ian Little scored 11 points for the Red Devils.
