Portage boys have good first night

SIDMAN — The Portage boys basketball team outscored Forest Hills, 22-7, in the second quarter Monday night en route to an 82-59 win on the road in high school action.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Preston Rainey’s 19 points were tops for Portage, which also got 18 from Kaden Claar and 10 each from Mason Kargo, Andrew Miko and Gavin Gouse.

The Mustangs, up 62-39 going into the fourth, finished with 10 3-pointers.

Blue Devils falter

BELLWOOD — The Bellwood-Antis boys opened their season with a 50-33 loss to Penns Valley.

The Blue Devils, who trailed 26-19 at halftime, got 10 points from Connor Gibbons. Teammate Zach Mallon added eight points.

Valley, which was playing its second game of the season, out-scored the Blue Devils, 14-5, in the final frame.

Bobcats triumph

DUBOIS — The Blair County Christian boys got a balanced effort in winning at DuBois Christian, 52-17.

Davis Dull’s 11 points were tops for the Bobcats, who led, 32-9, at halftime. Teammate Caedom Dull added 10 points as Blair Christian improved to 4-1.

JOHNSTOWN — The Portage girls team opened their 2021 season Monday night with an 87-32 win at Ferndale in high school action.

Ari Wozniak had 10 points and five rebounds for Portage, which led, 52-13, at halftime. Teammate Jenna Burkett added 10 points. Ferndale got 14 points from Angelina Wagner.

BCC girls win again

DUBOIS — The Blair County Christian girls improved their mark to 3-0 with a 31-23 win at Dubois Christian.

Melanie Miller’s 12 points were tops for the Lady Bobcats, who led, 15-5, at halftime. Teammate Maddie Snyder added nine points in a game the winners led by just two, 21-19, heading into the final frame.
