Notable: Pavelek’s layup with 29 seconds left helped Beaver rally from an eight-point fourth quarter deficit to knock off Penns Valley in the second round. Pavelek scored 31 points in the game. … Beaver had never made it to the PIAA quarterfinals before this season. … The Lady Bobcats defeated Penns Valley in the last PIAA, which defeated Central Cambria in districts. Central Cambria defeated Shady Side Academy in the last PIAA round, which defeated Beaver in districts.

Notable: York Catholic won the PIAA Class 2A championship three straight years, from 2006-2008. Andy Bria led the Fighting Irish to the first title, over District 6’s Westmont Hilltop, and Bankos won the title his first two seasons. The 2008 title came against District 6’s Northern Cambria, 52-40. … Rader missed more than five weeks due to a foot injury but has played in York’s past three games. … Bellwood-Antis is in the quarterfinals for the fourth time in five years. The Lady Blue Devils are 3-2 all-time in this round. … York Catholic had been competing in Class 3A before dropping down to 2A this season.

Notable: A-C Valley is in the PIAA quarterfinals for the first time. … Maxwell was named the MaxPreps Player of the Week for her efforts during the week of March 3. … Everett advanced to the 1994 PIAA quarterfinals under coach Sue Conner and lost to Southern Huntingdon, 67-64. Like this year’s Lady Warriors team, the squad had lost in the second round the year before with star Krista Jay. … Everett also made the quarterfinals in 1992 but lost to Girard, 43-40.

Notable: Stewart was a member of Farrell’s 1969 state championship basketball team. … Bishop Guilfoyle defeated Farrell, 35-0, in the 2015 PIAA Class 1A football championship game. … The Steelers won this year’s state football title with Wright leading the way. … The last time the Marauders made it to the quarterfinals, they lost to eventual state champion Sewickley Academy, 56-41, in 1997. That 1997 Bishop Guilfoyle team also beat Coudersport during its PIAA run.
