Haralson situation addressed

Following plenty of outcry over social media about replays aired on PCN showing West Middlesex junior Grace Mild connecting with a forearm/elbow to Bellwood-Antis’ Sakeria Haralson in the final moments of the first half of Thursday’s PIAA Class 2A title game, the PIAA has contacted WM coach Mike Williams about the incident.

“We received notification that the PIAA has addressed the elbow situation with West Middlesex,” Bellwood-Antis coach Jim Swaney texted to the Mirror. “Their coach has assured it will be addressed.”

Haralson took several blows throughout the game and missed the final minute of the first quarter after being helped off the floor. She still managed to finish 7-for-8 from the field with 14 points in Bellwood’s 66-57 victory, its second state title in as many years.

Earlier in the season, the standout junior forward missed several games due to a concussion.

“I cannot say how proud I am of all our kids, but especially Sakeria for the classy way she has handled all of this,” Swaney texted.

“There were multiple occasions where she could have lost her cool but responded with her outstanding play and showed the type of athlete and lady she is. Absolutely one of the best players in the state.”
