Altoona trio earns Mid-Penn honor

The Altoona girls and boys basketball programs were honored on Tuesday with first-team selections in the Mid-Penn Conference for the 2018-2019 season.

On the girls side, first-team status was awarded in the Commonwealth Division to senior Bridgid Fox and junior Caranda Perea. For the boys, junior P.J. Charles was named to the first-team in the Commonwealth Division.

Joining Fox and Perea on the first team are Harrisburg’s Dajahnae Brannon, State College’s Maya Bokunewicz and Central Dauphin’s Samantha Gress. Alongside Charles on the first team are Chambersburg’s Tyler Collier, Harrisburg’s Davon Lee, Carlisle’s Howie Rankins and State College’s Tommy Friberg.

The Altoona girls open play in the PIAA 6A Tournament on Friday at Hollidaysburg against Norwin, the No. 4 seed out of the WPIAL, at 6:30 p.m.
