Tyrone clinches ML title

WINGATE – Tyrone netted 14 3-pointers to help complete a 14-point fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Bald Eagle Area, 78-75, and claim the Mountain League title Friday night in high school boys basketball.

Nathaniel Soellner made five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points for Tyrone, as the Golden Eagles outscored Bald Eagle 32-19 in the fourth quarter.

“It was the most unbelieveable comeback I’ve seen,” Tyrone coach George Gripp said. “There was no quit in us. It was a great win for us, and I’m really proud of the way we hung in there to get it done.”

Shane Geis, Blake Brooke and Tristan Lingafelt each chipped in 12 points for Tyrone, while Jason Jones had a game-high 31 points for Bald Eagle.

Tyrone improved to 18-2 overall and 12-1 in the Mountain League.

Cullen Gahagan led the Dragons with 12 points, and Brandon Buchart came off the bench to score eight. Colton Kensinger grabbed seven rebounds before exiting the game early in the third quarter with an injury.

Danny Caprio led Bellefonte with 13 points.
