Tigers crush McCort

HOLLIDAYSBURG – The one thing the Hollidaysburg boys basketball team struggled with Monday night was converting free throws.

That didn’t stop the Golden Tigers from cashing in from the field on senior night as they pounded Bishop McCort, 73-48, at the Hollidaysburg Area High School Gymnasium.

The Tigers outshot the Crimson Crushers, 27-18, from the field despite going 10-for-20 from the free-throw line.

Senior Nick Consiglio along with junior Max Sheetz led Hollidaysburg (13-6) with 16 points each. Consiglio drained four 3-pointers.

“We do have the type of team that it can be your turn one night, your turn the next,” Hollidaysburg coach Brad Lear said. “Offensively, we can be pretty darn good whenever we’re performing the way we are capable of.”

Consiglio started the Golden Tiger explosion in the first, scoring 10 of his points. Ryan Adams added a fast break layup for a 17-8 advantage for the home team after one.

Jesse Ottaway powered the second quarter outburst for the Tigers with six of his 12 points, and Jake Holsopple added a three point play.

“Sometimes you go on the road and get a thorough (butt) kicking, and we got one today,” Bishop McCort coach Jerry Murphy said as his team dropped to 8-11.

Hollidaysburg led the Crushers at the half, 36-19. McCort’s Kyle Deter led all scorers with 17 points.

Sheetz allowed the Tigers to put the game away in the third scoring 13 points – including both of his three pointers. Hollidaysburg outscored the Crushers, 19-8, in the third stanza.

“They play hard, they hit open shots,” Murphy said. “They do a skip pass, they hit a 3. Every time it seemed like there was a loose ball, they got the loose ball.”

While Bishop McCort knows its postseason fate, the Golden Tigers still have three regular-season games remaining to decide theirs. Lear is looking for consistency heading into the playoffs.

“If we play consistent, and not let the opponent worry us, not let anything bother us, just come out and play basketball the way it’s capable of being played, we have kids who can knock down shots,” he said.

The Golden Tigers are back in action at home tonight as they welcome Mifflin County for their second-to-last home contest.
