Corl has big night to help Altoona defeat ’Cats

MILL HALL – Bobby Corl scored a game-high 35 points Monday night, leading Altoona to a 74-60 win over Central Mountain in a regular-season boys high school basketball matchup.

Isaiah Wansley added 13 points for Altoona, which used a 22-10 showing in the second quarter to erase a 22-17 first-quarter defecit.

Altoona (9-12) begins play in the District 6 Class AAAA playoffs next week.

District 6 playoffs

Julia Buggey scored 21 points to lead Homer-Center to a 62-36 win over Penns Manor in the first round of the District 6 Class A girls playoffs at Bishop Carroll High School Monday night.

Buggey scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half.

Skyler Altemus totaled 20 points for Penns Manor, which trailed 31-14 at halftime.

In District 6 Class A girls action at Central Cambria, Southern Huntingdon downed Purchase Line, 49-41, behind 21 points from Larasa Leonard and 14 p;oints from Kendra Donelson.

Purchase Line, which trailed, 22-21, at halftime, got 11 points from Ashley Goodlin and 10 points from Joycelyn Fleming.

In District 6 boys Class AA action at Central Cambria High School, Blairsville dominated Southern Huntingdon, 81-45, in a game Blairsville led 25-8 after one quarter. Rahdezz Henderson led the winners with 24 points, while teammate Troy Williams added 18 points.

The Rockets got 11 points from Drew Bender.

In another boys Class AA playoff game, Bishop McCort beat Penns Valley, 40-34, behind 10 points each from Alex Conchan, Mike Stem and Kareh Helsel.

The game was played at Huntingdon Area High School.

Penns Valley, which trailed, 17-15, at halftime, got eight points from Sean Beamesderfer.
