Mirror Athletes of the Week: Coleman, Lucas play key roles in Tyrone’s state championship

Athlete of the week achievement: Coleman threw a complete-game shutout and allowed just three hits and struck out 10 for Tyrone in its 5-0 victory over Oley Valley in the PIAA Class 3A championship game. He also had one of the Eagles’ 12 hits. Earlier in the week, he earned a save by recording the final out in Tyrone’s 4-2 PIAA semifinal victory over Central.

Season update: Coleman finished his junior season 9-1 with a 2.11 ERA and 97 strikeouts and just 29 hits allowed in 59-plus innings pitched.

Coach Kevin Soellner’s quote: “Aiden has the talent, with all due respect to other pitchers in the state, to be the best pitcher in the state. When his stuff is on, he’s definitely untouchable. Athlete of the week achievement: Lucas had a hit and drove in two of Tyrone’s five runs in its victory over Oley Valley in the PIAA Class 3A championship game. Earlier in the week, Lucas doubled, tripled, scored a run and drove in another for the Golden Eagles in their 4-2 win over Central in the PIAA semifinals.

Season update: Lucas finished the season hitting .421 with 20 RBIs and scored 27 runs while playing a solid third base for Tyrone.

Coach Kevin Soellner’s quote: “Brandon has worked super hard in all three of his sports, and he’s a standout in all three. He does really well in school and is a hard worker. He leads more by example than vocally. He’s started since freshman year and has made coaching him very easy.”
