Miksich succeeds in spotlight

Name: Cassidy Miksich

Sport: Golf

Athlete of the week achievement: Miksich carded an 83 at Windber Country Club to win her second consecutive District 6 Class 2A high school girls golf individual championship. She also competed for the boys team in the District 6 team championships at Scotch Valley Country Club and helped the Golden Eagles finish third.

Season update: Miksich will compete in the PIAA championships in York on Oct. 19. There is no PIAA Western Regional this season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Coach Mike Funicelli’s quote: “I’m so proud of Cassidy’s performance on Thursday. She has shown two years in a row now that she isn’t afraid of the big stage and continues to play solid golf when it counts. She works harder than anyone I’ve ever coached both on the course and in the classroom. I’m looking forward to watching her play among the state’s finest golfers.”
