Athlete of the week achievement: Day rushed for three touchdowns and 106 yards and threw for another 50 yards while leading the Mountain Lions to a 22-21 victory over State College in the District 6 Class 6A championship game.
Season update: Day has rushed for 500 yards and 10 touchdowns in Altoona’s five games and has passed for 354 yards and two more scores.
Coach Vince Nedimyer Jr.’s quote: “He’s been really good and not just in a physical way of his running and being able to throw the ball, but it’s his ability to check at the line and see looks we’re seeing and get us into a good play. He’s done a really good job with that. Those are things people in the stands don’t see. Sometimes when big plays happen, it’s because he’s making changes at the line of scrimmage. That’s where he’s really gotten a lot better for us this year.”
