Buffalo-PSU scoring summary

Penn State 7, Buffalo 0: Linebacker Cam Brown forced and recovered a fumble at the Buffalo 37-yard line. Two plays later, Sean Clifford connected with Jahan Dotson on a 28-yard TD with 8:50 left in the first.

Penn State 7, Buffalo 3: The Bulls put together an impressive and long drive, going 19 plays and 69 yards and establishing that they could move the ball on the ground. The drive stalled at the 19, but it gave the Bulls a lot of confidence against the PSU defense. Alex McNulty, who missed a 49-yard FG try earlier, booted a 32-yarder with 9:42 left in the half.

Buffalo 10, Penn State 7: KJ Hamler dropped a pass on third-and-4 at the 49 that would have given PSU a first down. Instead, the Lions had to punt, and they appeared to be in good shape as Blake Gillikin pinned Buffalo at its 4. But the Bulls hit a pass for first down to get out of the hole, then Matt Myers connected with tight end Zac Lefebvre on a beautiful pass down the seam for 29 yards to the PSU 48. On third-and-8, Myers hit Antonio Nunn for 40 yards to the 6. Two plays later, Myers found Julien Bourassa in the end zone for a 6-yard score and the lead with 14 seconds left in the half.

Penn State 14, Buffalo 10: Ricky Slade fumbled in Buffalo territory on PSU’s first series of the second half. But moments later, Myers’ third-down pass for Buffalo was picked off by John Reid and returned 36 yards for a TD to put the Lions back on top with 12:58 left in the third.

Penn State 21, Buffalo 10: The Bulls went three-and-out, and Hamler returned the punt 22 yards to the Buffalo 38. A personal foul penalty on the Bulls tacked on 15 more yards, so PSU started a drive at the 23. The Lions scored quickly as, on the first play, Clifford hit tight end Pat Freiermuth over the middle for a 23-yard score.

Penn State 21, Buffalo 13: The Bulls regrouped with a good drive, getting a 14-yard run by Jaret Patterson early and a 28-yard pass from Myers to Todd Carlton to the PSU 37. Kevin Marks then broke free for 29 yards to set up first-and-goal at the 8. The Bulls got conservative, though, on their first two plays and went nowhere, then missed on a third-down pass. McNulty kicked a 25-yard field goal with 6:59 to go in the third.

Penn State 28, Buffalo 13: Clifford showed off his wheels with a 58-yard run and nearly scored but was tripped up at the 2. Noah Cain scored on the next play with 6:12 left in the quarter.
