The Lions wound up punting from their 45, but a roughing-the-kicker personal foul penalty on Cepeda Phillips kept the drive alive. On the next play, McSorley connected with DeAndre Thompkins on a 40-yard TD with 12:51 to go in the first.

Penn State 7, Kent State 7: Kent State was going for it on fourth-and-5 from its own 45 on its first possession, and PSU jumped offsides for a first down. SECOND QUARTER

Penn State 28, Kent State 10: KJ Hamler returned the ensuing kickoff 52 yards to the Kent State 43, and McSorley hit Hamler for a 22-yard pass to the 13. McSorley took it in from 13 yards with 4 seconds to go in the half.

THIRD QUARTER

Penn State 35, Kent State 10: The Lions moved right down the field and scored easily on their first series of the second half, highlighted by a 23-yard pass from McSorley to tight end Pat Freiermuth to the 11. Mark Allen scored from 7 yards out two plays later with 10:05 left in the third.

Penn State 42, Kent State 10: After a short punt, PSU took over at the Kent State 41, and McSorley hit Thompkins on a 39-yard pass to the 2. Ricky Slade took it in from 2 yards on the next play with 7:42 to go in the third.
