Blue Jays draft Nittany Lion pitcher
UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State baseball senior pitcher Conor Larkin was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the ninth round of the 2021 MLB Draft on Monday, going 272nd overall.
Larkin became the 73rd player to be selected out of Penn State and the 44th pitcher. Larkin is the ninth Penn State pitcher to be selected among the top 10 rounds of the draft, joining Dante Biasi (6th; 2019), Joe Kurrasch (8th; 2012), Drew O’Neil (4th; 2008), Nate Bump (1st; 1998), Joel Johnston (3rd; 1988), Steve Nielsen (8th; 1976), Mitch Lukevics (2nd; 1975) and John Maier (5th, 1974).
PSU Altoona honored
The National Tenpin Coaches Association recently recognized the Penn State Altoona women’s bowling program for its success in the classroom when it announced its annual All-Academic awards for the 2020-21 year.
Penn State Altoona women’s bowling earned a spot on the NTCA All-Academic team list, as the Lions compiled a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.30. The organization’s All-Academic team list recognizes NCAA bowling teams that have cumulative team GPAs of 3.2 or higher for the past academic school year.
Additionally, the NTCA recognized three individual student-athletes on the Penn State Altoona women’s bowling team for being named to the All-Academic individual list: Breanna Yarnall (Bedford), Chloe Mazza and Kaitlyn Estright. To qualify for NTCA All-Academic individual status, an NCAA bowler must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the past academic school year.
